The paper series

Ten papers develop the framework: foundations, a case study, persistence mechanics, a synthesis, and a capstone. This page is their honest index — what each contributes, at its earned strength, per the project’s claim-provenance review. Where a paper’s own abstract once claimed more than the review could verify, the review’s grade governs and the abstract does not.

Provenance disclosure — read this first The February 2026 drafts of this series were generated with AI assistance as a capability exercise, and the project’s subsequent review found their citation layer partly unverifiable — including some references that do not exist. They are therefore served here as archive copies, under revision, with a notice on every page — not as finished scholarship. The revision programme rebuilds each paper under the method charter: verified references only, witnessed quotations, tier-graded claims, and a written adversarial-critic pass before release. The capstone was rebuilt first; the sibling papers follow one by one, and each revision is served below as it lands. This disclosure is permanent: a project whose subject is how systems handle their own errors does not get to hide its own.

The Luciferian Hypothesis: A Scientific Reinterpretation of the Panakal Thesis — the thesis stated at three nested strengths with every commitment priced; the textual case restored under witness rules as a method under study; discriminating tests that separate design from drift by predicted distributions; and the accounting the framework owed its sources.
Read at three grains: the guided tour (twenty minutes) · the full text (~13,500 words) · or the one-paragraph form: the minimal claim is structural and falsifiable; the strong claim is documented history; the full claim is quarantined interpretation — and the paper’s deepest result is that the claims the framework leans on hardest turn out to be restatements of what the source corpus found decades earlier by another method.

Memeplexes as Adaptive Cognitive Systems — the series’ foundation, rebuilt: the TAME-licensed operational-agency argument stated in Levin’s own graded form; the stress-sharing mechanism imported at its verified strength (proposed in TAME, formalized in silico); the metamorphosis exhibit corrected to what its source shows — and made the better analogy by the correction; the taxonomy’s derivation circularity confessed up front, with the supportive flexibility study the February draft never knew it owned now cited at fetch level.

Stress-Sharing as Cognitive Glue in Ideological Collectives — the mechanism paper, rebuilt: the binding proposal imported at its verified strength and quoted from its actual pages; the boundary-contraction account of deconversion grief kept at the center and sharpened by its own source (the self contracts in time as well as in reach, and dissolution runs on setpoint release, not stress relief alone); the strict-church dispute imported whole rather than settled by citation; and the echo-chamber prediction narrowed against the field’s null experiments into the affective-density test the field has not run.

Neurological Markers of Deep Belief Entrenchment: A Narrative Review of Identity-Fused Conviction Across Domains — the series’ individual-level neural paper, standing free of the framework: the Identity-Belief Fusion Model graded system by system against the replication record, with sample sizes and replication status inline for every anchor. The self and shielding systems carry reproduced results; the reward system one unreplicated study; the dispositional threat story mostly its own failed replications — what most reliably distinguishes rigid belief is not more alarm but less revision.

Religious Belief Systems and Mental Health Outcomes: A Structural Taxonomy Distinguishing Architecture from Content — the series’ clinical-outcomes paper, rebuilt: the three-dimension taxonomy stated as a proposal whose instruments are yet to be built; an invented prevalence figure replaced by the published 0–93% spread, whose variance the field itself ties to community religious intensity; a sourceless cross-tradition invariance claim removed and restated as a prediction, with the cross-cultural record that reverses its sign printed in the limitations at full numeric strength; the exit-distress record given its scope conditions — a substantial minority in high-demand samples, a penalty that concentrates in high-cost groups, and an ordinary-disaffiliation deficit that vanishes once lost participation is counted; and the adaptive pole given both its sober calibrations and a proposed mechanism, high engagement with low identification, entered as a marked hypothesis.

Christianity as a Case Study in Memeplex Self-Preservation — the series’ historical case study, finally sourced: two citations grown to seventy; the martyrdom mechanism rebuilt on the credibility-display literature and the Decian compliance record, where the decisive adaptation was readmitting the lapsed, not purifying them; syncretism carried by practice and site continuity, including a papal letter of 601 that orders the absorption strategy in writing; doctrinal elasticity documented in dated magisterial texts, one of which declares its own boundary at the guilt architecture; the false never-lost-a-territory claim replaced by Anatolia and North Africa as the substrate-replacement demonstration, with the Balkans as the natural control; the promised extinct-system comparison performed (Manichaeism, the mystery cults, Catharism); and an eighth mechanism — reproduction through capture of the family — proposed to repair the taxonomy’s own blind spot.

The Guilt-Redemption Loop as a Cognitive Dependency Architecture — the series’ formalization paper, its mathematics now real: the guilt state modeled as a doctrinally installed component plus an episodic component, with relief restricted to the second — a restriction quoted from the tradition’s own conciliar texts (the disposition that remains after baptism, the certainty of forgiveness forbidden under anathema, the residue each absolution leaves, the cadence written into canon law in 1215); the floor, the oscillation, and an unlooked-for third regime of continuous relief-seeking derived rather than announced, with the simulation the original endnote promised actually run; the isomorphisms re-anchored, led by the one relief cycle experimental psychology can produce on demand; and the corpus that stated the architecture thirty years early cited at last, beside the canon that legislates the physician of souls.

Viral vs. Decentralized Ideological Architectures — the series’ transmission-architecture paper, its model now written: the two configurations treated as states an institution maintains rather than kinds a belief system is; the exclusivity asymmetry placed in its model class (superinfection, one parameter κ) and six propositions derived and run — the exclusive system’s prevalence-independent invasion, the inclusivist system’s prevalence ceiling, the crossover as three derived landmarks, the captive cascade as a fold with hysteresis and a second cascade on the return branch, demographic persistence under suppression, re-emergence that needs a carrier; the exclusivity demand shown datable and enforced by statute, with the fine schedule quoted; Japan corrected at the level of the printed sources and generalized to a six-case dormancy class with no counterexample to Paper 2.1’s prediction; Kerala as fifteen centuries in the decentralized state until a synod re-installed the viral one in a week; the Punjab census as the intensification cascade’s dated instance; the corpus’s deferral device answering the disconfirmation vulnerability, with the sociology of millennialism describing the same device from outside; the digital cost asymmetry reversed on the record, and the AI section rebuilt around a correction published four days before drafting.

Pattern Persistence Through Substrate Loss — the series’ pattern-persistence paper, its criteria rebuilt around the carrier record: four rival explanations of a successor’s resemblance to its predecessor named at the outset (convergence under shared constraint, the reoccupation of a vacated question, invented tradition, mutual definition) and only a traceable carrier record left able to discriminate; a small model deriving what the framework had asserted — the competent-carrier threshold between metamorphosis and fossilization, the external carrier that removes it, the reconstructibility gradient, and the mutational window an institution re-forms around, purging what varied; the Temple read as one loss with two successors, from Josephus, Leviticus and the Mishnah on one limb and the councils of 418 and 529 on the other, with the corpus’s own contrast placed where it belongs; the Reformation as several reconstructions within a generation, all gating the community’s rite on prior discipline, with Weber page-located in both languages and restricted to what he said; the Marxism claim joined at its eighty-year debate with Blumenberg’s objection carried rather than answered; four small cases returned at the strength found, three of them as controls, and a fourth configuration the framework did not have; the corpus’s identity criterion stated as a severable design with its count re-derived from the Greek.

Parasitic Memeplexes as Scale-Free Cognitive Agents — the series’ synthesis paper, rebuilt so that it states no claim at a strength the paper that owns it does not: the five pillars at their owners’ registers; the seven-layer architecture as a dated table, each layer with its owner, its verb, its grade, what would count against it, and its benign dual; the series’ three classifications consolidated as three kinds — a class, a set of dimensions, a state an institution maintains — plus a fourth, the relation between a pattern and its carriers, distinct, correlated, and not identical, with the four companion models placed in one concordance and the joints no owner wires named; the taxonomy’s antecedents recovered at full text (Delius 1991, Balkin 1998, the project’s own February 2025 research layer) and the series’ contribution located in the axis, host cognitive autonomy in place of host fitness, with the borrowed field’s own caution that its triad is a continuum; the case restated at each owner’s strength, the markers as their derivation case rather than a diagnosis, and the prayer example replaced by the one theological claim put to a randomized trial; cognitive sovereignty’s inherited definition shown to be, in Levin’s own framework, the description of the pathology it meant to cure, and the capstone’s repair carried with its evidence; one composition of two companion models, run and figured, showing the series’ two exit concepts to be two variables; the education and AI implications rebuilt on their literatures at the strength found; the philosophy-of-mind stance placed inside the group-agency literature as the most modest position in it.

5.1The Luciferian Hypothesis (February draft)First tiered statementSuperseded by the rev. 2 above — kept on the shelf as part of the record

Why keep superseded drafts public at all? Because the project’s central claim about textual transmission is that conclusions survive while evidence dies — and a project that quietly replaced its own record would be performing the failure it describes. The shelf stays; the notices say what changed.

How to read the series

If you read one document, read the capstone’s guided tour — it contains the series’ architecture in miniature and every important concession. If you read two, add the Texts. If you have one evening for the whole framework, the Atlas is the entire claim-structure at card resolution. The full papers are for verification and depth — which is what the archive beneath them is for.
